SERVE ON CIVIC BOARD OR COMMISSION
Sept. 26, 2019
From our friends at the Women's Foundation Appointments Project:
There are nearly 2,200 expired terms and vacancies in our Appointments Project® jurisdictions. You read that right, 2,200 openings! We are committed to advocating for you and for gender parity on all civic boards and commissions. We appreciate you working with us to increase gender diversity.
It is taking six to twenty months on average to fill board vacancies, and for some boards that are not top priorities, it may take longer depending on the individual appointing authority.
Please understand we want things to move faster, but the appointing authority controls the timeline once a formal application is submitted. We also want to take this opportunity to say “thank you for your patience.” In the meantime, there are some pro-active steps you can take.
First, sign up for an upcoming workshop if you haven’t attended one. We are currently scheduling our 2020 workshops and will have the first quarter dates soon. If you have attended one, encourage other women to attend by sharing this email.

(Scott Allegrucci from Governor Kelly’s office will be present to highlight Kansas vacancies and answer questions.)October 3 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm Workshop (Prairie Village, KS)
Next, complete the application of interest on our website. This helps us connect you with civic boards and commissions within your geography.
Finally, attend a civic board or commission meeting you are interested in joining. Many of these meetings are posted on the government website. If they are not, they have a point of contact to call for details. This gives you opportunity to meet some of their board culture and current agenda issues.
We are committed to advancing all women’s economic and civic leadership, and we appreciate you working for change with us.
